Dan Gillean

he/him

Business & User Experience Analyst

Dan provides requirements analysis, user experience design, software testing, and documentation for Artefactual's emerging projects and applications. He completed his Dual MAS/MLIS degree at the University of British Columbia's iSchool in 2013, and previously spent a decade as the AtoM Program Manager with Artefactual before shifting to focus on new development projects. Dan is passionate about the intersection of archives, technology, and open-source. When he's not trying to convince the archival profession to embrace linked open data, he can usually be found under a tree reading sci-fi or walking his dog, Stella.

Dan is a settler currently based in the traditional territories of the Seneca (Onödowáʼga) Nation, members of the Ho-de-no-sau-nee-ga (Haudenosaunee) Six Nations Confederacy, in the city currently known as Buffalo, New York. Consistent with the Haudenosaunee Dish with One Spoon Treaty of Peace and Friendship, he is honored to be able to live and work in this area, and pledges to peaceably share and care for the land, resources, and people here.
