We think a lot about records here at Artefactual and today we want to set the record straight about AtoM. For the foreseeable future we will continue to maintain, update, and support Access to Memory (AtoM). Our most recent upgrade was made just a few weeks ago and it was a major release, addressing significant technical debt around ElasticSearch and PHP support. Maintenance may not sound as flashy as new features but it is critical to ensure that the software can continue to be usable, stable, and secure into the future.
We have not only hired and assigned developers specifically to look after the AtoM codebase but we have also renewed our connection to community contributors who have been crucial to AtoM’s success in the past and who will continue to be in the years ahead. We believe that this is the best assurance for AtoM's future and to help us in upcoming transformations.
Artefactual was established 25 years ago with a mission to provide open source software for archivists and we continue to value openness as a requirement for longevity - for our company and for our software. AtoM is very much alive and Artefactual will continue to release our projects under an open source license, focusing on data and records over the software that creates or stores it. Spread the word!
